UV-Curable Gel HARZ Labs Tough Gel
HARZ Labs Tough Gel — is a convenient and easy-to-use high-viscosity UV-curable gel designed for finishing photopolymer artistic and engineering parts. It features high reactivity and increased curing depth, ensuring rapid formation of strong connections between components.
The gel is capable of filling cracks, holes, and chips, restoring missing elements, and returning models to their original shape. After curing, it is easy to sand and paint. It has minimal shrinkage and cures without a sticky layer.
The polymerization time under ultraviolet light ranges from 5 seconds to several minutes, depending on the layer thickness. The recommended maximum layer thickness is no more than 5 mm.
Application of HARZ Labs Tough Gel
1. Clean the surface, remove any contaminants before applying the gel, and degrease the surface with alcohol
2. Use the supplied spatula or any convenient tool to apply the gel. After that remove any excess material
3. Cure the gel using a UV flashlight with a wavelength of 405 nm
Recommended light intensity is 4.9 mW/cm². When using less powerful flashlights or those with a wavelength of 385 nm, the polymerization time will increase and the maximum curing depth will decrease.
Additional Information
The gel can be applied to fully cured parts as well as to washed and dried pieces before final UV curing. For maximum polymerization, it is recommended to additionally cure the gel together with the part in a UV chamber after flashlight curing.
When bonding parts, ensure that the materials being joined are also UV-transmissive.
Before sealing drainage holes, make sure there is no liquid photopolymer or alcohol inside a hollow model. Otherwise, the enclosed volume may cause the model to break.
For mechanical processing, use a standard set of tools: rotary tool bits, flap abrasive discs, and sandpaper.
Priming and painting seams using the gel are performed in the standard way and do not differ from painting a solid part.
Application Tool
The gel comes with two spatulas for application. These were also printed using HARZ Labs photopolymers.
The gel comes with two spatulas for application, also printed from HARZ Labs photopolymers. Both spatulas can be joined into a single tool. To do this, print a connector from the link and attach it to both halves of the spatula, as shown in the diagram.
Precautions
- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight — the material is photosensitive, and even brief sunlight on an open container can cause curing.
- Avoid direct contact with skin. Always use gloves when working with the material.
- If the gel gets into the eyes, rinse thoroughly with water and seek medical attention.
- Use UV-protective glasses when curing the material.
- Do not expose open gel containers to UV from the flashlight during curing.
For additional safety, disposal, and precaution information, refer to the material's Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
